Ahmedabad Tourism

Mangaldas Ni Haveli

1

So you have heard about House of MG? Have you also heard about Mangaldas Ni Haveli? Yes? Have you been inside? We hear “NO” from most you and hence here is a sneak peek into the 200 years old Haveli, considered to have one of the best carved wooden architecture.

We must tell you that photography is not allowed and we are just so glad, CityShor was still allowed to click photographs inside Mangaldas ni Haveli. But tell you what … no photographer can do justice to the beauty of this Haveli.

Estimated to be around 200 years old, Mangaldas ni Haveli is located in Khadia,
the heart of the historic walled city of Ahmedabad. It originally belonged to a Nagar Brahmin family and is one of the finest examples of carved wooden architecture typical of that time. It was bought by the Mangaldas family in 2006 and has been restored with the help of the Heritage Cell of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. There also used to be a café which has been closed down, owing to the parking issues.

Rest, we will let the pictures do the talking …:)

I Love Food

I am a Amdavadi by heart… I am a foodie…

I was born in Ahmedabad and my schooling also was completed in this city. That initial period of my life here was glorious. Ahmedabad was inviting me to start a new journey just as my life had started. I had mentioned my desire of moving to Ahmedabad several times to my wife. Moving to Ahmedabad was like a dream come true for me.

The last days in Bangalore before shifting to Ahmedabad were not really the way I wanted them to be. The days were a little rough and I was frustrated. I lived through the same mood even after I boarded the flight and even until I landed in Ahmedabad and came out of the airport, but the sight of the yellow sun shining upon the known land, the smell of the land, the familiar buildings changed me totally; I was like the hero in a movie who comes back to his country after decades. The moment he enters everything is in slow motion, well movements around me were not actually in slow motion though.

Well, it has been close to a year now and life has changed too…new friends, new places. I have realised that as I have changed during the years of my stay in Kerala, even Ahmedabad has too, a lot of changes… places have changed, the lifestyle of people has changed…but one thing that hasn’t changed is the food, the food here is as tasty as ever and the people here are foodies as ever… During my stay here I’v checked out several new food joints here with friends, with my wife and every new place I visit gives me more and trust me there is no place I have eaten till now which serves bad food, be it a road side gaadiwala.

My wife who knows my love for food, one day suggested that I should check out the site of CityShor Ahmedabad. I had seen ads of CityShor earlier but I hadn’t taken them seriously. But when my dear one suggested it, I couldn’t say no and yes, I am glad I considered CityShor. CityShor is a new-age setup which showcases good choices for food, fashion, entertainment, etc. If you have taken a look at their website http://www.cityshor.com/, you would know what variety they have been suggesting. Fast food joints, gaadiwalas, high-end restaurants, eateries with a difference. And the food they choose, the photos they upload are just WOW! The same is the case with their other categories, i.e., fashion, entertainment, Ahmedabad Tourism, home décor and so on.

If you haven’t read through their briefs on the various places, it’s time you do it now. I have made up my mind to definitely try a few places.
Love food…love cityshor!!!

One More Thought for Ahmedabad

What’s this new buzz in FB town! In past few weeks, the FBites, especially the amdavadi ones are seemingly captivated by an intriguing page Cityshor Ahmedabad. Contagiously enough, they are hitting the ‘Likes’ chart of this official FB page of a young start-up in the city called CityShor.com.

As its tagline says, CityShor.com tells what’s best in Ahmedabad in food, fashion, home décor, Ahmedabad Tourism, entertainment…Are you thinking it’s just another contact info directory? Better not ignore it, for it has much more in store to share with the amdavadi public. It strolls through the nook and corner of the city discovering, reviewing and sharing experiences about the new, interesting and undiscovered (by many) facets of Ahmedabad. Not many people know there’s an exclusive fan store in our city that sells unconventionally designed, innovative fans. If CCD and Shambhu’s were the only cafés you knew, well, there are a lot more interesting hangout places than those age old ones. Did anyone know of a recipe like Pav Bhaji Fondue and Chulla Dosa with a twist in Sambar being served in the heart of Amdavad? I never did, frankly. And a studio that teaches pottery, wow, really! Those who love to explore and do the new are sure to fall in love with them as they bring forth things that don’t boast of their goodness, but they are popular in niche crowd through word of mouth. And the word of CityShor’s mouth is quite a worth following.

A lot of interesting things I discovered while I roamed through CityShor.com. It amazed me greatly as it makes one realize that Ahmedabad is no more a boring city (as many people opine), rather it is rapidly evolving as a happening city. The uncommon theme-based restaurant and café concepts, the innovation in menu, the creative business and product ideas…it shows a glimpse of Western World’s influence on the young generation and young entrepreneurs of the city. The way amdavadis are going places and exploring countries across the world, no surprise this city with entrepreneurial spirit and passion is fast catching up with the world trends and showing up its global face. Browsing through CityShor.com and after having visited a couple of places I discovered there, I gather that this time is the dawn of a new era of contemporary entrepreneurship in aapnu Amdavad. Cheers!

So… go beyond the usual and explore the unexplored with CityShor.com (i.e www.cityshor.com). If you know of something that CityShor.com and everyone else should know, then do share with them (and also with me :-)

My Way: Walk down some busy street someday, aimlessly - nothing's as great as that to observe facets of life. Try it.
